Guitar Pickups - Summary

Here's a summary of the key points:

  • If you play live, avoid too much tonal variety on the one instrument - a wide selection of different timbres is far more useful
  • Again for live players, avoid cumbersome pickup selection systems - keep it simple with an arrangement to select between a few good sounds
  • Play along with music to test how your sounds will stand out in a band to avoid the impractical sounds
  • Use pickups with similar impedances for combined (specially the standard parallel in-phase) pickups
  • Choose different sounding pickups for out-of-phase combinations
  • Don't believe advertising hype - your own ears will tell what's hot and what's not
